Demographics
This district, comprised of retail and service businesses, is located in the southern section of town surrounded by a large residential community. This district attracts shoppers from neighboring towns and from interstate I-355, which is ¼ mile to the west. The Meadowbrook Shopping Center, built in the early 1970s, is the main anchor of the district. In 2005, several new businesses, such as Roundhead’s, relocated making a new home on this corridor, renovated vacant buildings, which improved the aesthetics and economic viability of the district.
GOAL STATEMENT:
To foster the creation of a distinct, innovative, commercial retail oriented gateway that continues to promote retail but that also promotes mixed-use such as the possibility of lower-intensity office uses. Efforts should recognize and enhance the predominance of adjacent residential and continue to foster a sense of neighborhood while still fostering a vibrant mix of commercial retail land uses that complement the surrounding residential areas.
